Today Ecology, Coast Guard and Shell Refinery representatives are responding to an oil spill at the refinery. At 9:45 a.m. the refinery reported a crude oil spill in their waste-water treatment plant due to a hose that broke during the transfer process (crude oil was being transferred from a storage tank to a pipeline). Early indications estimate a potential spill in the 8,000 to 10,000-gallon range. A US Coast Guard over flight confirmed no oil spilled to the waters and the product is contained at the sight.

Refinery personnel and crews from the Coast Guard and Ecology responded to the scene and confirm the spill is completely contained. The crude oil spill had the potential to be up to 8,000 gallons, but  responders agree it is likely much less. More precise volumes will not be available until further into the investigation. No threats to wildlife or the community exist and refinery workers are performing soil and sediment cleanup on site.
