Fishing vessel DARE II grounding

The Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) and U.S. Coast Guard are responding to a wooden fishing vessel breaking up in the surf at Ocean Shores. The 48-foot boat lost propulsion Wednesday evening when approaching the bar. Crew members aboard the F/V Dare II made it safely to shore. The boat is estimated to have between 50 and 80 gallons of fuel on board.

Status updates

September 23, 2011

The vessel remains on the beach at Ocean Shores this morning. Debris on the beach is being cleaned up by Washington Conservation Corps crew. Ecology is on scene monitoring the response and pollution threats. The Washington Department of Natural Resources has hired a response contractor to remove the vessel.

Ecology, Coast Guard responding to grounded vessel

OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) and U.S. Coast Guard are responding to a wooden fishing vessel breaking up in the surf at Ocean Shores. They are assessing the situation in order to develop a response plan.

The 48-foot boat lost propulsion Wednesday evening when approaching the bar. Crew members aboard the F/V DARE II made it safely to shore.

The boat is estimated to have between 50 and 80 gallons of fuel on board.

Ecology received the initial report Wednesday evening. A decision was made to delay sending a response team until first light Thursday morning based on the information available at the time and concerns for responder safety.
