Online Informational Presentation and Public Hearing
Puget Sound Nutrient General Permit
July 22, 2025, 5:30 p.m. PT, Online webinar
We invite you to attend the online informational presentation and public hearing for the draft 2025 Puget Sound Nutrient General Permit, and share your comments with us.
We are hosting an online informational presentation and public hearing on Zoom. During the presentation we will explain our proposed changes to the permit, and answer questions. The public hearing will begin immediately following the presentation. The public hearing provides an opportunity for people to provide formal verbal testimony and will conclude when testimony is complete.
The draft permit and supporting documents are available on the Puget Sound Nutrient General Permit webpage. Oral testimony will receive the same consideration as written comments.
Discharges of excess nutrients—particularly nitrogen—to Puget Sound from domestic wastewater treatment plants are contributing to existing low oxygen levels in Puget Sound and the rest of the Salish Sea. The Clean Water Act and federal rules require facilities that contribute to water quality impairments by discharging excess nutrients to take action to prevent this pollution. The Puget Sound Nutrient General Permit applies to 58 domestic wastewater treatment plants discharging to marine and estuarine waters of the Salish Sea in Washington.
