Puget Sound nutrient reduction grants program
In the 2021-23 biennial budget, the state Legislature appropriated $9 million for a grant program to help municipalities prepare and plan for future treatment facility upgrades and implement operational modifications necessary to maximize nutrient removal from existing treatment processes. This grant program will provide affected municipalities with financial assistance to address the Puget Sound Nutrient General Permit requirements. Eligible applicants for funding are the 42 municipalities that operate the 58 wastewater treatment plants that discharge to Puget Sound that will be covered by the permit.

Municipalities with wastewater treatment facilities that discharge to Puget Sound.
Planning efforts, monitoring, and operational efficiencies required in the Puget Sound Nutrient General Permit.
