Groundwater diagram
This landform cross-section shows the role of groundwater in the water cycle. Groundwater is a key part of the system. Aquifers provide water for drinking water wells, irrigation, and industrial uses. Groundwater also recharges lakes, rivers, and streams at certain times of year. And in turn, groundwater is recharged by precipitation, irrigation, and the interconnection with lakes, rivers, and streams, as demonstrated in this model.
