Establishing a program to address stormwater pollution

In 2007, the Legislature directed Ecology to establish the Local Source Control Partnership, a small business technical assistance program designed to prevent pollution and improve the state’s water quality. Each biennium, we enter into interagency agreements with local governments near critical waterways. Currently, the partnership includes 18 local governments in the Puget Sound region, two on the Columbia River, and one on the Spokane River. Participating jurisdictions assign pollution prevention specialists to provide free, one-on-one technical assistance to small businesses. We offer these services under the title "Pollution Prevention Assistance."
