Everett smelter cleanup progress
Our cleanup work is more than halfway done
About 700 residential properties were potentially affected by smelter contamination in the upland area. We have now completed sampling on all the properties that agreed to be sampled (more than 550).
For about 400 of these properties, we have either completed cleanup or determined through sampling that no cleanup is needed. We also completed cleanup of American Legion Park in 2016 and Viola Oursler Park and Wiggums Hollow Park in 2019.
In 2023, we will be working to remove contaminated soil at about 40 properties where cleanup is recommended.
