Litter studies provide information about the types, amounts, and distribution of litter in the state. They also provide valuable insights on residents' attitudes and behaviors around littering. This information is used to inform and evaluate litter prevention efforts.
The last litter study occurred in 2004. With restored funding, a study was planned for the 2019-21 biennium. However, that study was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will conduct a comprehensive litter composition and generation study in the 2021-23 biennium.
