Asotin Shoreline Master Program: comprehensive update and periodic review

Final approval

On Nov. 4, 2024, we approved the City of Asotin’s (City) request to adopt and implement the Southeast Washington Coalition (SE WA Coalition) shoreline program to serve as the city’s Shoreline Master Program (SMP).

The city's amended SMP is effective Nov. 18, 2024, 14 days after we provided notice to the city that their SMP was approved. This SMP will guide development and activities along approximately 2.5 miles of shoreline jurisdiction along the Snake River and Asotin Creek, including their associated wetlands and shorelands.

The Coalition includes:

  • Asotin County
  • Columbia County
  • Garfield County
  • the City of Clarkston
  • the Town of Starbuck
  • the City of Asotin

The updated SMP includes goals, policies, regulations, shoreline environment designations, and administrative procedures and definitions. It prioritizes water-oriented uses and development within the city’s shoreline areas; identifies potential restoration projects for future shoreline restoration efforts in a Restoration Plan; and incorporates critical areas regulations to ensure the protection of sensitive areas within shoreline jurisdiction.

Email notices were used to notify interested parties of the public comment period. No comments were received.
