Drayton Harbor water cleanup plan

Total Maximum Daily Load

July 14, 2025, 12 a.m. - Sept. 19, 2025, 12 a.m. PT

We invite you to comment on the draft Drayton Harbor water cleanup plan.

Draft plan

This waterbody and its tributaries are on Washington's polluted waters list for bacteria problems. The presence of this bacteria often indicates fecal matter from warm blooded animals has entered the water, increasing the risk that humans who contact the water will get sick. The plan describes what needs to happen to clean up the pollution so that it meets water quality standards.

The federal Clean Water Act requires states to develop a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) — or water quality improvement project — plan for each water body on the state's polluted waters list, also known as the 303(d) list. This science-based approach assigns a numerical value that represents the highest amount of a pollutant a surface water body can receive and still meet the water quality standards. Learn more about the TMDL process.
