King County Shoreline Master Program: locally initiated amendment

We held a public comment period on King County's proposed amendment to their shoreline master program (SMP).

We used email to nofitify those who had expressed prior interest. We also issued a news release to encourage public participation and comment. We received two (2) written comments. Comments are focused on clarifying the Comprehensive Plan update cycle and incorporating the Comprehensive Plan updates into the critical areas section.

Reponse to public comment

We have prepared a summary of public comments and sent this to King County on April 21, 2025. The County response to the public's comments were received May 1, 2025. The respose to comments will be posted here when available. Please check back.

Next steps: our decision

We will compare the County's proposed program to the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the shoreline master program guidelines. We will decide whether to:

  • Approve the program as is.
  • Approve with recommended changes.
  • Send the proposed program back to the County with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.

Relevant documents will be posted on this website when they become available. Please check back.
