Developing Dam Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Manual
The Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manual is a detailed written description of systematic procedures for ensuring that a dam is operated and maintained properly. The manual describes procedures for operation of the project under normal and extreme reservoir inflow conditions and provide technical guidance and procedures for monitoring, inspection, and long-term maintenance. Adequate operation and maintenance is critical for ensuring the continued safe functioning of the dam and continued productive use of the dam and reservoir.
O&M Plan
The O&M Plan is a summary of information that is found in the O&M Manual. For some simple earthen dams, completing the O&M Plan, or something equivalent, will satisfy the O&M Manual requirement under WAC 173-175-500. DSO will make this determination on a case-by-case basis after reviewing the completed dam template.
