Public involvement opportunities

We make our cleanup work transparent and inclusive by offering the public opportunities to review and comment on cleanup documents and decisions before they are final. Our public involvement process is based in the Model Toxics Control Act, which lays out specific ways we inform and engage the public.

We will update this page, as needed, with information about how to participate during comment periods and other activities, such as public meetings.

In 2019 we held a comment period and an open house for public review of three technical documents. Now the documents have been finalized.

Future public comment periods will be held to review the draft Interim Action Plan for the study area and for review of legal agreements implementing the cleanup action.

Community involvement is important during the cleanup process, and we welcome public input at several key steps. Public involvement can include attending public meetings, submitting written comments during public comment periods, and community education.

How can I be involved?

Individuals, organizations, and other agencies may submit written comments during public comment periods and attend public meetings. Public Participation Grants may be available for non-profit organizations interested in monitoring the cleanup and helping to prevent pollution.

When can I make a public comment?

We will ask for public input on milestone documents like legal agreements, major cleanup decisions, cleanup work plans, and draft reports. If you’d like to be notified of upcoming comment periods, contact Nancy Davis, 360-489-4971, the public involvement coordinator for the Rayonier Mill cleanup.

Where else can I access public documents for this site?

Technical reports and outreach materials, including summaries of previous comments we have received and our responses to them, are available in two locations.
