Cleanup status

Cleaning up contaminated sites is a key part of our source control efforts. Source control means finding the sources and extent of contamination, then stopping or reducing them before they reach the Lower Duwamish Waterway (LDW).

We manage cleanup of many contaminated sites within the LDW drainage area and are working to add more sites to the list. 

• Our Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction program manages cleanup sites that are current or former dangerous waste facilities.
• Our Toxic Cleanup program manages multiple sites through the state-supervised formal cleanup process.
• Our Voluntary Cleanup Program assists many other sites.
