Bothell shoreline master program: locally initiated amendment

The public comment period for the City of Bothell's proposed locally initiated amendment to its shoreline master program (SMP) is now closed.

We held a public comment period on the City's proposed amendment to their SMP. The period for public comment was from April 14 to May 16, 2025.

We used email to notify those who had expressed prior interest. We received one written comment letter with nine individual comments. The comments are focused on clarifying language and utilizing Best Available Science (BAS), maintenance and contingency planning to protect ecological and cultural functions of critical areas.

Response to public comment

We have prepared a summary of public comments and sent this to the City of Bothell on May 27, 2025. The City will write a response to the public’s comments. The response to comments will be posted here when available. Please check back.

Next steps: our decision

We will decide if the City's proposed SMP amendment meets the requirements of the Shoreline Management Act and the Shoreline Master Program Guidelines. We will decide whether to:

  • Approve the shoreline master program as is.
  • Approve with recommended changes.
  • Send the proposed shoreline master program back to the city with required changes to meet statutory and rule requirements. Recommended changes may also be included with the required changes.

Relevant documents will be posted on this website when available. Please check back.
