Shelton SMP: periodic review

Final approval

On March 28, 2023, we approved the City of Shelton Shoreline Master Program (SMP) periodic review.

City of Shelton’s updated SMP is effective April 11, 2022, 14 days after we provided notice to the city that their SMP was approved.

Shelton comprehensively updated their SMP in April 2015, and amended it in Sept. 2017, to revise and update the Shoreline Environment Designation map to add a newly annexed area. The proposed amendment is needed to comply with the statutory deadline for a periodic review of the SMP pursuant to RCW 90.58.080(4).

The SMP regulates new shoreline uses and development along segments of Hammersley Inlet, Oakland Bay, Goldsborough Creek and Goose Lake. The amendment will bring the SMP into compliance with requirements of the Shoreline Management Act, or state rules that have been added or changed since the last SMP amendment, ensure the SMP remains consistent with amended comprehensive plans and regulations, and incorporate revisions deemed necessary to reflect changed circumstances, new information, or improved data.

On Nov. 22, 2021, we provided changes to the City of Shelton on their SMP. The recommended changes were based on our review of whether or not the proposed amendment complies with state laws and rules. There were no comments received during our public comment period held Sept. 20 to Oct. 20, 2021.

Mail and email notices were used to notify interested parties of the public comment period. No comments were submitted on the proposed amendment.
