Background

Safer Products for Washington establishes a process where we designate priority chemicals, identify products that contain those chemicals, determine needed regulatory actions, and adopt rules to implement regulatory actions. Before we can restrict the use of a chemical in an identified consumer product, the law requires that safer alternatives are feasible and available.

In Nov. 2024, we published our Draft Identification of Priority Products Report to the Legislature: Cycle 2 Implementation Phase 2, which identified new priority consumer products that are significant sources or uses of priority chemicals or chemical classes. We also published an additional resource to support the draft report: Draft Technical Supporting Documentation Priority Products: Cycle 2 Implementation Phase 2.

We held a public comment period for the draft report from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024. We are using feedback received to shape the final report, which will be published by June 1, 2025.
