Aladdin Plating

We are monitoring the groundwater at the former Aladdin Plating Co. site in Tacoma where legacy plating chemicals continue to exceed the state Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA) cleanup levels. The groundwater data we collect will be used to evaluate the effectiveness of site cleanup activities.

Post-cleanup performance monitoring

Aladdin Plating Co. is a former electroplating facility that operated from 1958 to 1994. Metals associated with electroplating were identified in the site soils and groundwater. The facility was demolished in 2005, and contaminated soils have been removed from the site. Groundwater samples are collected twice a year from four monitoring wells to test for chromium and nickel. The data will be used to determine if the soil removal has been effective in reducing contaminant concentrations in the groundwater.
