Dangerous waste facility cleanup
We oversee the cleanup of many facilities that manage or have managed dangerous waste. While many facilities are no longer in operation, their owners must still investigate and clean up any waste released into the environment.
We use the following to guide cleanup at these sites:
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (federal).
- Model Toxics Control Act (state).
Dangerous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facilities must have a dangerous waste permit to operate in Washington. Most of these sites are large and complex, with multiple sources of contamination. Because of the complexity of contamination, often from multiple sources, it may take decades to complete a cleanup.
