U.S. Oil Refinery
We regulate water and hazardous waste activities at the U.S. Oil and Refining Co. oil refinery, tank farm, and marine terminal in Tacoma.
Facility information
The refinery began operating in 1957, and has about 190 employees. Owned by ParPacific, and doing business as U.S. Oil, it processes crude oil into a variety of petroleum products.
- At full production, the refinery is capable of processing approximately 42,000 barrels of crude oil each day.
- Wastewater from the petroleum-making process is treated and sent to Blair Waterway, which empties into Commencement Bay.
- Stormwater is sent to the Lincoln Avenue Ditch, the Erdahl Ditch by way of Marshall Avenue, and the City of Tacoma's stormwater pipe on the Port of Tacoma Road.
Permit information
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency regulates the refinery’s air quality activities. Visit the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency website or call 206-343-8800 for more information.
