Nippon Dynawave Industrial Incident
On the morning of Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Ecology was informed by the Washington State Emergency Management division that white liquor was released from a storage tank at Nippon Dynawave in Longview. We are responding to this incident as part of a Unified Command. Updates will be posted to the spill incident page as information becomes available.
We regulate the air, water, and hazardous waste activities at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company pulp and paper mill in Longview.
Facility information
This is a kraft pulp and paper mill and liquid packaging plant.

With around 550 employees, the pulp and paper mill makes about 280,000 tons of bleached liquid packaging paperboard and wetlap and slush pulp each year. The liquid packaging plant has about 450 employees.

Nippon treats its wastewater and sends it to the Columbia River. It also accepts and treats wastewater from Eagle US 2, Specialty Minerals, Solvay Chemicals, the Columbia & Cowlitz Railway, North Pacific Paper Corporation (NORPAC), Weyerhaeuser's Lumber and Saw Mill, and the Mint Farm.
